I wish they'd use the !mpact versions. Or at least give them one of the
52 Earths.

10. THE NEW IMPROVED METAL MEN
FWIW, always remember that that bad stuff always gets discussed far
more, at least here, than the good stuff.

But some current stuff I like about the DCU at the moment:

- Legion Of Three Worlds.

- The thought of Sean McKeever getting tossed from Teen Titans.

- The Justice Society book.

Green Arrow/Black Canary #5 (not the so-called "Wedding Special" which
evidently decided that that Lois & Clark episode where they get married,
but Lois is actually a frog-eating clone, was a model worth following).

Thanks for the info! I missed it and don't remember a mention of it!

Well, until now.

Meh. I would rather DC be looking forward, rather than backward.

You do know that this is just prelude to him cheating on her, don't

03. THE NAVAJO BLACK CONDOR
04. GEOFF JOHNS' WRITING OF THE HAL JORDAN GREEN LANTERN
Once again, DC looks backwards.

I did like the utterly implausible and unnecessary explanation for a
middle aged man having grey hair was that he was possessed by an evil
being. If they were bringing him back anyway, they could have de-aged
his body at the same time to get rid of the grey.

05. THE UPCOMING SECOND JUSTICE LEAGUE SERIES
Sounds like Justice League Elite, Batman and the Outsiders, etc. I
like the idea of getting to see the blue Starman, but does anyone
think this will really work?
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
06. THE POSSIBLE RETURN OF KATAR HOL AS HAWKMAN
I'm torn. On the one hand, they had finally kinda straightened
everything out if you didn't look to closely, but on the other hand,
it wouldn't be Hawkman if things were at all tidy.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
07. FRANK MILLER'S OUTRAGEOUS ALL STAR BATMAN
Love it, but it's not really DCU Proper, now is it? I'd toss Grant
Mossison's All Star Superman in here too as a work of beauty.

3. Dini's run on Detective
4. Booster Gold
5. Brave and the Bold
6. Krypto -- I don't care if Superpowered dogs make no sense.

I'd agree with all that. Except that superpowered dogs make *perfect*
sense; why should all the things that create superbeings in the DCU only
ever happen to humans? I think there should be *more* superpowered dogs!
Dogs that bit radioactive mailmen, dogs that dug up powerful Egyptian
artifacts, dogs that got hit by mysterious combinations of chemicals. And
cats, too, although it's harder to imagine them as selfless heroes...

Well, if characters like Daria Morgendorffer and Juniper Lee are any
indication, a 'hero' can be sarcastic and even rebellious as long as
he/she 'gets the job done'. (read: presents an interesting, if not
amusing, story)

A lot has changed since the Comics Code was established (and to my
knowledge, disbanded) - not every authority figure is honest and law-
abiding and not every 'monster' is evil - allowing a character, writer or
other member of the crew to take some well-placed potshots at their
annoyance(s) can be entertaining if not empowering/theraputic,
particularly if bullying is still a problem.

In fact, which would you prefer - a kid constantly crying about how life
isn't fair or a kid that does something about his/her problem(s)?

(Believe me, I can think of a few teachers and other abusive 'authority
figures' that deserve a black eye) }:^)

Signed,
Warewolf
who hopes that 'punching bag comedies' like WishKid, Robo-Roach and Tom
and Jerry Kids never get translated to comic book form.

PS There are a couple of cats that I know of that gained 'superpowers'
and used them for other people's benefits as well as their own.
California Girls has one that received superhuman intelligence from an
experimental laser and used it to help the title characters and I believe
that a couple of Archie titles - Katy Keene and Sabrina - follow(ed) a
similar trend (although Salem's talents can be attributed to his
occupation as a 'familiar')

Feel free to mention any other examples that you find/know of.

For me the jury is still out on this one. I'm willing to give
Morrison the benefit of the doubt, but I'm expecting a pretty if pay-
off here and will be disappointed if I don't get it.

2. Legion of Three Worlds
Was really looking forward to it when it was announced. Not quite as
keen on it after reading the first volume, but like Final Crisis I'm
willing to keep buying and see it through with reasonably high
expectations.

It has potential...and I am really glad to see the post-zero hour
legion again (it's my favorite version)...but I'd prefer they left
Superman proper out of it...we just had a Superman and the Legion
story...this should just be about the Legion.

about JMS' upcoming run either, since I have little interest in the
Archie characters.

I like Krypto too...but showing his thoughts in a dialogue box is just
taking it too far...way too cheesy.

I have mixed feelings on this one...I like some of it but I HATE all
the continuity revisions they're doing...I'm tired of DC retelling the
same old stories rather than telling new ones.

I think Superman is being included specifically as a counter to
SuperPrime, as well as perhaps fleshing out the current version of
Superman's connection to the LSH a little more as well as help establish
what I've heard will be a lead-in to a new Superboy & The LSH title.

certain...and I don't see how having the adult Supes appear could set
up a SuperBOY & the LSH title.

On a side note, I'm kind of wondering if maybe the mini will end with
the 3 Legions permanently combined in some way...maybe some versions
of the characters will be killed off to be replaced by others or some
of the characters that only exist in one version might end up joining
another...it's just a theory, obviously.

I think the purpose of the title is less a story about "In a world with
SuperPrime (pause) can the LSH win?" than about "Can SuperPrime be
redeemed?". And, if the rumors from my local bookstore (a new Superboy
& The LSH title by Johns & Some Artist) are correct, setting the status
quo up for that.

A "Redeemed SuperPrime" who would be called Superboy would be the
Superboy in the title. No, I don't really buy that SuperPrime can be
redeemed, unless they're gonna do some sort of "kill off SPrime/Sboy is
born" thing more literally than figuratively.

You are correct, and that was part of my point. (Sorry, I probably
should've reminded folks that Didio and crew have said that legal has
determined that Superboy-Prime is adequately different/distinct from the
original Superboy that they can use the name "Superboy" for him.)

no sense at all...or that Morrison's run up to this point has failed
to interest me...although I do LOVE the ninja man bats from his first
arc...decades for now, that will be Morrison's greatest contribution
to Batman.
Sounds like I don't need to worry about reading it. :)
Unfortunately, it's not quite as simple as avoiding Morrison's Batman
run as it is now reaching out to crap all over the rest the DC
Universe (or at least all the Batman-related titles).

2. Legion of Three Worlds
It has potential...and I am really glad to see the post-zero hour
legion again (it's my favorite version)...but I'd prefer they left
Superman proper out of it...we just had a Superman and the Legion
story...this should just be about the Legion.
I think Superman is being included specifically as a counter to
SuperPrime, as well as perhaps fleshing out the current version of
Superman's connection to the LSH a little more as well as help establish
what I've heard will be a lead-in to a new Superboy & The LSH title.
I actually think it works better if the Legion has to face Prime
without Superman to back them up...it makes the outcome less
certain...and I don't see how having the adult Supes appear could set
up a SuperBOY & the LSH title.
I really can't see any believable way to redeem Prime...he's kind of
reached the point where he either has to be killed off or reduced to
just another bad guy...I just don't see any interesting angle in
keeping him around.

On a side note, I'm kind of wondering if maybe the mini will end with
the 3 Legions permanently combined in some way...maybe some versions
of the characters will be killed off to be replaced by others or some
of the characters that only exist in one version might end up joining
another...it's just a theory, obviously.
I'd like to see all three get an Earth to themselves when all is said
and done.
I'd like each of them to get an ongoing series...it's not going to
happen but it's what I'd like to see.

I think the only they would publish three concurrent series each
staring a different version of the Legion is if there were
high-profile creators interested in each book...as it stands, if that
Superboy and the Legion book actually does happen, I'd expect the
current Legion ongoing will be phased out.

Agreed... two "competing" LSH series wouldn't last.

The first thing they'd have to do is phase out or change characters so
that no two similar characters existed in either book... (like the
Earth-2 JSA became the JSI and focus on non-New Earth-JSA characters).

And if you did that both LSH series would suffer.

Add another LSH and the problems are multiplied...

Even with big names interested... no, I don't see it working.

It'd be nice, but as I say, if they did decided to do it they'd, as I
said, probably damage each of the titles to make them have different
characters.

Meh. I would rather DC be looking forward, rather than backward.

04. GEOFF JOHNS' WRITING OF THE HAL JORDAN GREEN LANTERN
Once again, DC looks backwards.
I did like the utterly implausible and unnecessary explanation for a

his body at the same time to get rid of the grey.

I'm torn. On the one hand, they had finally kinda straightened

it wouldn't be Hawkman if things were at all tidy.

These are some of the things that I am enthusiastic about in the
01. THE RETURN OF BARRY ALLEN AS THE FLASH
Normally, I much prefer to see them move forward rather than step
back, but I love Barry Allen and, unlike Hal, he's actually really
been gone a long time...so I do look forward to new Barry stories from
Geoff Johns whose previous run on Flash was excellent...I do think,
however, they need to have Wally decide to retire or else go away for
a while because three Flashes opperating concurrently is a bit much
and his story has kind of stalled at the moment anyway.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
02. THE MARRIAGE OF GREEN ARROW AND BLACK CANARY
I absolutely HATED this...it makes no sense whatsoever in the current
DCU...too much has happened with these characters this to work at this
point...BC taking him back after he's cheated on her at least 3 times
just makes her look pathetic and Ollie can't be Ollie if he's
married...and they way they wrote the story makes it even worse...BC
just shows up, hops into bed with GA, and declares him a changed man
and agrees to marry him as soon as they do a quick BC mini series just
so they can poorly discard all the great story elements and character
development Gail Simone had done with her in Birds of Prey...it was
awful...never mind the big NON-EVENT of having TWO different Green
Arrow/Black Canary Wedding Specials when the wedding doesn't actually
happen until months later in the regular title...and then there's the
fact that it's sure to end badly down the line...it's only a matter of
time until some writer wants to play the womanizer card with GA
again...and then they either break up or BC ends up looking even more
pathetic than she already does.

It should have been left in the past.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
03. THE NAVAJO BLACK CONDOR
I'm kind of indifferent on this...I've never really cared one way or
other about any version of the Black Condor.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
04. GEOFF JOHNS' WRITING OF THE HAL JORDAN GREEN LANTERN
I'm not a fan...I always thought Hal was boring so his resurrection
just seems unnecessary to me...Johns has told some interesing GL
stories but I feel like they've all been in spite of Hal's return
rather than because of it...many of these stories could have worked
just as well, if not better, without Hal...and then we'd actually be
seeing something new and interesting.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
05. THE UPCOMING SECOND JUSTICE LEAGUE SERIES
I've loved James Robinison's work in the past but this book sounds
pretty bad to me...the line-up is just terrible and I can't immagine
how even Robinson can pull it off...and that he's bringing in a
Starman that is not Jack Knight is just insult to injury.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
06. THE POSSIBLE RETURN OF KATAR HOL AS HAWKMAN
I think Starlin has royally screwed up Hawkman all over again...Johns
did the best possible job of fixing Hawkman when he brought him back
before and I don't see why Starlin has to muddy the waters all over
again. If you want Katar Hol back...fine...bring him back...just
don't try to turn Carter into Katar...the Golden Age Hawkman IS NOT
the same as the Silver Age Hawkman...and the story didn't even make
sense given that there are actually characters kicking around the DCU
who knew Carter Hal as Khufu (Black Adam, for instance)...and sever
JSA members (including Hawkgirl) actually time-travelled back to
Ancient Egypt and met Khufu and Chay-ara.

I can only hope that subsequent writers will take the out Starlin left
and have it all turn out to be a fake-out.

07. FRANK MILLER'S OUTRAGEOUS ALL STAR BATMAN
Ugh! It's pretty...that's the only good thing I can say about it.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
08. THE NEW LESBIAN BATWOMAN
I think the character has potential but it's ridiculous how little DC
has done with her since her introduction...they need to develop the
character a little before they force her into the Justice League...we
haven't even seen the obligatory first meeing of Batman and
Batwoman...and, given current events in Batman, they may have missed
their chance.

It was a pretty lame ending, in my opinion...it was the only part of
the series I didn't care for...and Robinson left it open for a
comeback when the psychic predicted Jack would become Starman at least
one more time...though, even if he did bring in Jack, I don't think it
would be enough to save this series.

admitting that you're not joking and the arsehole you post as is real.
You really, really, need to get the fuck over yourself and lighten up
a little. It's a comics newsgroup not congress.

I thought you were being insulting, as usual, and responded
accordingly...if just about ANYONE ELSE had made that post, I would
have taken it as a joke and it wouldn't have bothered me at all.

As for my being an arsehole, I am not the one who goes out of his way
to be a condescending jack ass to everyone in this group on a regular
basis, so I'd say you're the one who needs to yank the stick out, bud.

I'm only a condescending "jack ass" to people acting like morons.

Hense, I'm condescending to you 80 - 90% of the time.

Callously disregarding the opinions of others is insulting...or, at
the very least, annoying.

Then I suppose you must think most of the people in this group act
like morons as your obnoxious behaviour is hardly limited to our
exchanges...it really is a shame we all can't have your sharp wit and
social skills...it must be quite freeing when anyone who disagrees
with you (and, in many cases, even those who agree with you) can be
immediately dismissed as morons.

No. A limited few.

Ah. A strawman argument. Is you point that weak that you have to
make stuff up about me?

I don't dismiss opinions I disagree with them. I disagree with them.
I argue against them. I discuss them. Sometimes I'm even convinced
by them.

However, every now and then, there are opinions so out of touch with
reality, so ill-thought out that I do dismiss them. Usually not
immediately, but when people hold onto them despite the fact that
there is clear evidence they are wrong.

You, however, have a stick shoved so far up your arse that you take
any disagreement with you as a dismissal of your opinion.

Hell, I joked about us agreeing and you too it as abuse. That's how
out of touch with reality you are.

Which I mistook as dismissing my opinion...given your history, I don't
think it was much of a stretch.

They only way you know how to disagree with anyone is to insult them
and/or belittle their intelligence...and I have never once seen you
actually reverse your position in a discussion once you've made up
your mind.

You know, that sounds familar...oh yeah, you just described how I feel
every time I get into an argument with you.

Hardly...I have no problem with disagreement...I respect the opinions
of others as long as they reciprocate...which you don't...unless you
happen to agree...and sometimes not even then.

SOMEONE here is clearly out of touch with reality, alright.

At any rate, we clearly aren't getting anywhere with this exchange so
let's just drop it.

No, given your false beliefs about my posts, it wasn't a stretch.

Actually, no, it was still a stretch. What exactly about it made you
think I realistically thought you were copying my opinions?

No. You've already admitted that you don't read many of my posts, so
your experience of my posts is limited...

But, no, most of my posts aren't attacks. You might not believe that,
but that's not my problem.

About half of them. You, however, claim you don't read most of them,
so lets not pretend you can tell me what they're all like.

Calling morons morons isn't belittling their intellegence.

01. THE RETURN OF BARRY ALLEN AS THE FLASH
Pointless waste of a good story. Leave him dead.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
02. THE MARRIAGE OF GREEN ARROW AND BLACK CANARY
I'm with the cynics. We're not going to see a stable marriage.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
03. THE NAVAJO BLACK CONDOR
Could be interesting.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
04. GEOFF JOHNS' WRITING OF THE HAL JORDAN GREEN LANTERN
I don't follow the character.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
05. THE UPCOMING SECOND JUSTICE LEAGUE SERIES
With the exception of the Busiek run, I haven't bought a JLanything
for a long time.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
06. THE POSSIBLE RETURN OF KATAR HOL AS HAWKMAN
Possibly one of the stupidest ideas ever. Carter Hall is a
far superior character, and I speak as someone who was
imprinted with Katar Hol as a teen.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
07. FRANK MILLER'S OUTRAGEOUS ALL STAR BATMAN
So how many non-prostitute female characters has he written lately?
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
08. THE NEW LESBIAN BATWOMAN
I'm also curious as to why you emphsized her sexual orientation.
Having said that, yeah, if they let her live it will be an
interesting boost.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
09. THE MIGHTY CRUSADERS AS PART OF THE DC UNIVERSE
No opinion; haven't read anthing with them.
Post by TODD TAMANEND CLARK
10. THE NEW IMPROVED METAL MEN
The one story I read wasn't well-plotted, but the team itself
is interesting. And it's about time that a) copper was added
to the mix, and b) a second female personality was added.
